Arts, Crafts, Food, Boats and Fashion..

Sorry, another long gap in between postings. The past three weeks have been so busy, I'm in the middle of training at work, and by the time I get home I'm too exhausted to update.  Art Week is coming up and I am trying to fit in visits to galleries and other events over the next 10 days.

But for now what has been happening...well.

12 October 2013

Lynn Mall turns 50 on the 30th of October, and they have been exhibiting  fifty years of fashion.
Quite a few of the stands the mannequins are standing on represent patterns of Crown Lynn dinnerware.
Also a link if you would like to know more of the 50 years of fashion. Click here

The bottom two are supposed to represent the future. Certainly cannot see myself in these!!!

Also the heritage boards have been updated, if you live in the area they are well worth the look, the Mall has certainly changed. I remember getting dropped off at the playground there with my brothers in the late sixties while Mum went shopping. Playgrounds are not like they used to be!

The power of advertising, I see the Laundromat Boutique has opened its Coffee & Donuts Cafe.
So instead of turning right out of the train station today, I turned left and had to indulge.

Coffee and a Cronut
Britomart on a wet morning
The Sea Princess was in port for the day today before making its way to Tauranga this evening. It is now start of the cruise ship season, although not as many ships are coming our way this summer.

10th October 2013

After the heavy rains, a rainbow in the city.

6 October 2013

Mum brought us back some herbs from her recent trip down the line and we weren't sure where to plant them. After some thought we realised we had a small pallet in the backyard, so what did we do with it??
Yep we made a herb garden.

Also today we went to Wattle Bay, glorious morning and so hot.
If you look close enough you can see a Heron in its nest in this tree (see arrow)

I was in town quite early this morning so wandered over to Queens Wharf, where there was some new artwork on the container by Meghan Geliza

Also artwork from an unknown..

There was also poems along the fence line unfortunately I don't know why they were there, but they were pretty good.

Of course this post wouldn't be complete without some baking, here we have a Lemon Curd Souffle, and it was scrummy. (With Lemon Curd ripple ice cream on the side)

29 September 2013

This weekend we made a Gabion to go on the deck, I have planted Night Scented Stock in here. I have also planted this in the garden and any pot with spare soil. By the time summer comes the scent emanating from these flowers should be amazing.

28 September 2013

Today we brought a small smoker, this was Malcolm's birthday present from the golfing boys.
As you can see we have salmon smoking.

..and yes it was delicious. Since then we have smoked chicken, sausages, and cheese.

23 September 2013

Today the super yacht A arrived in Auckland the boat is owned by Andrey Melnichenko and will be going into dry dock for maintenance. It was very difficult to get the entire boat in one picture due to the size of the boat and security not letting anyone near the boat. It is currently moored at Silo Marina

The police were also on hand to make sure we were behaving ourselves!!

Also berthed at Silo Marina is another super yacht Pacific

A view over Silo Park and Wynyard Quarter

Seaplane has also arrived at Silo Marina, soon to be taking visitors to the outer islands.

Up close view of the Wind Tree..

and a neat wall at a restaurant

Also do you remember the recycled window frame, well here it is finished.
Do you like the view from my window?? Yes I turned it into a picture frame.
The picture is one I took from Treble Cone over looking Lake Wanaka

22 September 2013

Do you remember the 3 thrush eggs in the nest, well now we have....CHICKS...how cute.
I didn't want to get too close as the mother kept squawking and dive bombing me whenever I got too close, so they are not very good photos I'm afraid.
